Faux.fr, our information site on domain names used for abuses such as phishing or the sale of counterfeit goods, celebrates its 5th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Five years ago, the first Covid-19 pandemic-related containment in France began. To complement our Blog on Solidnames.fr<\/a>, we decided to create a news site dedicated to extrajudicial “UDRP” decisions handed down in phishing and counterfeit product sales cases. <\/p>\n

The domain name chosen for this new site is faux.fr<\/a>. The name is surprisingly free. It is one of the terms subject to prior review by Afnic<\/a>. In fact, Faux is also the name of a French commune. <\/p>\n

After reviewing our application, the French domain name registry awarded Solidnames the domain name faux.fr.<\/p>\n

Five years later, almost 400 articles have been published on our news site.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

News on trademark infringement actions<\/h2>\n

The news site deals with decisions relating to the sale of counterfeit goods over the Internet<\/a> in all sectors of activity.<\/p>\n

Fashion is obviously represented. Fake clothes<\/a> (even children’s<\/a>), fake lingerie<\/a>, fake shoes<\/a> (including boots, trainers<\/a> and sandals), fake jewelry<\/a>, fake watches<\/a>… The counterfeit goods shopping is colossal.<\/p>\n

However, counterfeiting also affects more surprising sectors. For example, there are fake household appliances<\/a>, DIY products<\/a>, toys<\/a>, weapons<\/a> (!), cigarettes<\/a>, medicines<\/a> and even pet products<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Counterfeit brands sometimes face major counterfeiting networks. In this case, they can consolidate their UDRP complaint. In this way, dozens of bogus websites can fall into the wrong hands. <\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some of the most emblematic complaints of recent years include Clarks in 2023 (428 domain names!)<\/a>, Gucci in 2020 (204 names)<\/a> and Axel Arigato in 2021 (101 sites)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the counterfeiters, Malaysian company Web Commerce Communications<\/a> has often been implicated.<\/p>\n

Faux.fr deciphers abuses such as phishing<\/h2>\n

The other main category of the faux.fr website concerns phishing damage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Identity theft by e-mail<\/a> has exploded in recent years. In the past, phishing has historically targeted banks<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Nowadays, all sectors are affected by misappropriation of funds or goods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fake surveys<\/a> and gift card scams<\/a> are also set up to collect personal data and financial information on their victims.<\/p>\n

New scams such as fake job offers<\/a> based on cybersquatted domain names have also been created.<\/p>\n

Law firms representing trademarks in UDRP proceedings<\/h3>\n

Faced with these numerous abuses, companies regularly use a legal representative to back up their UDRP complaints.<\/p>\n

In France, SCAN<\/strong>(Decathlon<\/a>, Laboratoires Th\u00e9a<\/a>, Le Duff<\/a>…) and Koblenz<\/strong>(Amina Muaddi<\/a>, The Frankie Shop<\/a>…) are active in this field.<\/p>\n

Among the Industrial Property Attorneys, Germain & Maureau<\/strong>(Aubade<\/a>, Bonpoint<\/a>, Lafuma…), Lynde & Associ\u00e9s<\/strong>(Alstom<\/a>), MIIP – Made In IP<\/strong>(Cache-Cache<\/a>, Leclerc<\/a>, Marlink<\/a>…) or Plasseraud IP<\/strong>(bioM\u00e9rieux<\/a>, Magasins U<\/a>, Rothschild<\/a>…) won numerous decisions for their customers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
